Abstract

Industry standards will be the basis for the next generation of real-time systems. These industry standard systems, termed Open Systems, provide a number of advantages for users. Open systems reduce system cost and time to market, increase availability of software packages, increase ease-of-use, facilitate system integration, and can provide complete software portability.
