The Concept of a Ward Information System

  • Conference paper
Medical Informatics Europe 1991

Abstract

The Ward Information System (WIS) is certainly a goal to be reached before the end of the current decade, and quite a number of medical software designers are working on this subject. This paper offers some basic objectives, based on a long experience with a Hospital Information System (HIS) and expresses what is thought to be the essential users’ requirements. A taxonomy of the WIS functions is then proposed in a three by three grid, totalizing to 46 functions, each more or less independent of the others.

Considerations are also presented about the WIS “look and feel”, as the resulting implementation of a prototype of a WIS environment. This work was carried out within an AIM project of the CEE, under the name of HéLIOS [Dego90].
