Abstract

The method of mapping a research trend involving citation analysis allows to quantify the development of a particular research area and, more importantly, to establish its interrelations with other areas and thus to create the map proper. In our investigation we have tried to create the map of current trends in the neurobiology of aging by using computer-aided cluster citation analysis. It was found that this map of interrelations, both between separate research trends and within each of the trends in neurobiology of aging and Alzheimer’s disease, in particular, has provided us with the quantitative “portrait” of this area. In addition, we managed to assess the most cited and most significant investigations and hence to evaluate the contributions made by each research center to the development of this field.
