Abstract
In order to perform the distributed EDP tasks in a research institute a computer network was designed and installed in the Hahn-Meitner-Institut for Nuclear Research in Berlin. A general overview of this network (HMI-NET) and its facilities is presented. The paper reviews problems and possible design concepts of a remote data access system in a heterogeneous network. The adopted solution for the HMI-NET and its most important design characteristics are discussed.
