Zusammenfassung
Neben der Sprache spielt das Dokument eine zentrale Rolle bei der Übermittlung von Information. An persönlichen Arbeitsplatzcomputern unterstützen in zunehmenden Maße Basiswerkzeuge die Handhabung elektronischer Dokumente im Büro. Büroarbeit besteht meist aus einer Folge von Prozessen, die sich über mehrere Arbeitsplätze und mehrere ihrer Werkzeuge erstrecken. Damit Dokumente zwischen kooperierenden Werkzeugen offener Systeme ausgetauscht werden können, benötigt man als Grundlage ein gemeinsames Verständnis vom Aufbau der Dokumente.
Gegenwärtig entwickelt daher ISO/TC97/SC18/WG3 in enger Zusammenarbeit mit ECMA/TC29 und der CCITT Studienkommission VIII ein normiertes Dokumentarchitektur-Modell und davon abgeleitete Dokument-Austauschformate für sowohl nur wiedergebbare als auch weiterbearbeitbare Dokumente. Das Architekturmodell beschreibt den Aufbau von Dokumenten als eine Hierarchie von logischen Objekten und Layout-Objekten, die den aus verschiedenen Informationsarten (Text, Bild) gemischten Dokumentinhalt strukturieren. Vor allem das Architekturmodell und Prinzipien der Formate werden vorgestellt und Weiterentwicklungsmöglichkeiten aufgezeigt.
