The Impact of Knowledge Property and Social Capital on Creation Performance: Moderation of Goal-Driven Strategy

Abstract

In this paper, effects of knowledge property (tacitness and complexity) and social capital cultivated by social networks (structure, relationship, and cognition) on knowledge creation performance are examined. A saliency of this research is the moderating effect of creation strategy. Based on 142 valid samples from the manufacturing industry and the service industry, the research findings were obtained, showing that (1) the knowledge creation performance depends likely on the knowledge property that companies consume and social capital generated from social networks existed in companies, (2) knowledge creation strategy plays a moderating role in the relationship between precedent variables and creation performance, (3) complex knowledge and social capital derived from social team cognition have more influences on the knowledge creation performance while adapting goal-driven creation mode in knowledge creation. Discussion and implications are also addressed.
