Abstract
This paper gives a detailed derivation of the constant radiosity step, a transformation of the radiosity equation system that can be used to accelerate iteration methods for solving the problem of diffuse light propagation in closed environments. This iteration step can be performed without calculating form factors and can be applied to classic and stochastic radiosity methods. It simultaneously changes each member of the current solution vector by the same amount, thereby reducing the magnitude of the residual vector. The elements of the residual vector are changed in proportion to the absorption of the corresponding patch, so that the sum of the elements of the new residual vector is zero.
