Abstract
Virtual environment applications demand rich, dynamic scenarios populated with objects that exhibit realistic behaviors and interact convincingly with each other and human participants. In addition, applications require scenes that accurately model the geometry and properties real environments to fine levels of detail. In the domain of virtual driving environments, the cost of experiment authoring, the process of creating experiment-specific scenes and scenarios, is quite high. In this paper, we examine the challenge of developing scene and scenario authoring tools accessible to non-specialists and outline our approach to meet this challenge.
