Abstract

Linear quadtrees are a method of encoding digitized images which offers a wide range of operations and manipulations. In this paper, we present a new method to significantly reduce the cost of the translation of a pattern in an image encoded with linear quadtrees. We represent images and patterns by a set of prefixes. Each prefixe is composed with string of bits coding homogeneous areas. The translation operation is processed on the set of strings of bits coding the pattern. In this paper, we here propose and analyse an algorithm which reduces the cost of this operation from nlogn to logn in the worst case and to a constant time in several cases.
