Abstract

In this study, we propose dynamic prioritization of image macro-blocks for Wireless Multimedia Sensor Networks (WMSN). An encoding scheme is employed at the source node by labeling the blocks as “important” or “not-important” based on the information they contain. We introduce a set of novel priority measures to weigh importance of macro-blocks using their intrinsic properties. Experimental results reveal that the priority encoding scheme gracefully adapts itself to the application’s quality requirements while reducing the required bandwidth fairly.
