Abstract

This paper presents the use of particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm modified for the search of optimized gain values of speed controller for a permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) drive. The PSO is modified to generate particles in complete search space and have a multiobjective problem involving speed as well as torque error as independent variables of fitness function so as to minimize these errors. The proposed algorithm is modeled and simulated in MATLAB/Simulink environment. The obtained results are presented to demonstrate the effectiveness of the modified PSO algorithm for the desired speed control of the PMSM drive.
