Abstract
Normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) was calculated using data of Landsat-5/8 to study interannual variations of wetland vegetation in spring during 1997–2015 with taking Nansihu Lake wetland as the study area. Also, correlations between NDVI and the concentration of atmospheric pollutants of the same seasons in 2015 were analyzed. The results are as followed: (1) From 1997 to 2005, average NDVI in spring decreased firstly and then increased; (2) From 1997 to 2005, total vegetation coverage decreased firstly and then increased: the proportion of extremely-low vegetation coverage was the largest with a tendency of increasing, and that of high vegetation coverage is the smallest with a tendency of decreasing; (3) R2 of cubic multinomial regression fit between NDVI and atmospheric pollutants (SO2, NO2, PM10 and PM2.5) were no less than 0.8, all being in negative correlation respectively. The results explain that the wetland vegetation has a function of purifying air.
