Abstract
The emergence of virtual museum has opened up a new way to protect and inherit the traditional culture. Through extracting a variety of information from artifacts, virtual museum can transform the traditional static artifacts into dynamic digitized information, like sound, images and texts, and visitors can roam or study in the virtual museum breakthrough the limit of time, space and territory. Therefore, we create a Dongba culture virtual museum (DBCVM) based on the real museum in Lijiang. In DBCVM, virtual exhibits combine with physical photos and background knowledge to show the essence of culture in artifacts for visitors. In addition, through combining Human Factor Engineering, the entire system is considered ‘user friendly’, that is to say the system not only reflects the characteristics of immersion, interaction and imagination of the virtual reality, but also considers the psychological feature, usage habit and learning interest of visitors. DBCVM can fully mobilize visitors’ learning initiative by providing them a vivid and visual learning style and promote Dongba Culture breakthrough the limit of time and territory to protect and inherit traditional culture better.
