Abstract

This work focuses on analysis, need, design and implementation of an easy to work driver-assistance system in both normal and especially in a fleet management environment. The work provides assistance to the drivers and also to the fleet managers. Considering situations such as bumpers on the road, a side road that joins the highway, etc., if alerted to driver it can save a lot of accidents. The work is implementation of the same through global positioning system (GPS) and through sign board recognition mechanism. It alerts the driver also the fleet manager about speed limit zone, honking restriction zone through geo-fencing implementation. The work proposes a special hardware that could interface with any android phone through an android application. This hardware will be used to collect necessary information like sign board information, vehicle environmental information and communicate to the android phone either through On The Go (OTG) cables or Bluetooth interface. The phone in turn uses GPS position and embeds the position data with the above vehicle data, alerts and stores them for further analysis. The android application works with the incoming information and the GPS positioned and gives its feedback as an assistance to the driver. This work includes need for driver-assistance combined with fleet management and sign board recognition concept.
