Abstract
Flash flood is one of the most disastrous natural hazards causing disruption in the environment and societies. It is mainly governed by intense rainfall, and due to its quick action, effective response is challenging. Several studies have assessed impact of flash flood events concerning land use/landcover (LULC), financial losses, and destruction of infrastructure. In collaboration of rising population and expansion of urban centers along the floodplains, the increased frequency of the flash floods results in enormous damage to natural resources. The flash floods are primarily governed by intense rainfall events, topography, LULC, soil, and available soil moisture which are also prime parameters governing soil erosion. The above rationale forms the motivating factor to assess the influence of flash floods on LULC dynamics and pattern and magnitude of soil loss in mountainous river basin on sub-watershed scale. The findings of the present study are insightful for formulation of effective land management strategies toward natural resource sustainability.
