Abstract

A probe fed Hybrid Dielectric Resonator Antenna (HDRA) with dual sense Circular Polarization (CP) for WLAN (5 GHz) applications is proposed in this paper. The proposed hybrid structure is composed of cylindrical DR element and a circular ring patch to achieve circularly polarized radiation with wide bandwidth. The common probe feed between ring patch and cylindrical DR element is responsible in creating asymmetry and hence two orthogonal modes to generate dual sense CP (left hand/right hand) radiation. The proposed antenna offers a Return Loss bandwidth (RL-BW) of 450 MHz (4810–5260 MHz) and an Axial Ratio (AR) bandwidth of 280 MHz (4970–5250 MHz) in the specified resonance band. The simulated peak gain obtained at 5 GHz is 6.9 dBi.
