Abstract

In this paper, a locust is used as the bionic object to design a locust robot based on a variable cell mechanism that couples two modes of movement, jumping and fluttering, with a focus on the design and simulation of the jumping mechanism and fluttering mechanism of the locust robot. The jump mechanism is composed of incomplete gears, springs and connecting rods, while the flutter mechanism is composed of worm gears and double cranks and double rockers. A push-pull solenoid is used to achieve instantaneous merging and separation of the mechanism based on the construction of a class of variable cells. The constraint equations and neighbouring chain matrix are also used to describe the constitutive characteristics of the variable cell mechanism and the variable cell process. The simulation results show that the movement process of the model is basically the same as that of the locust, which verifies the feasibility of the bionic structure.
