Abstract
Transferring polyhedral solids between CAD systems is discussed. This transfer must be planned in a different way than the traditional computer transfer of curves and surfaces between CAD systems. The traditional considerations of geometric data transfer along with the CAD system geometric tolerance issue are discussed. The geometric tolerance specifies when we should consider a point to be on a line or a point to be on a plane, etc. The tolerance issue relates to the fact that the geometric tolerance value of the sending system might be greater in magnitude than the geometric tolerance of the receiving system. Testing and possible subdivision of facets must occur to allow for the transfer of the polyhedral solid if the geometric tolerance of the sending system is greater in magnitude than the geometric tolerance of the receiving system.
