Abstract
Three different definitions (all of them from published literature) of the concept of realization of a sequential machine by another are examined. It is shown that the definitions are all different and the exact relations between them are discussed. Consequences of the results to the problems of linear realizability of sequential machines and of state splitting are also investigated.
