Summary
A nonlinear assignment problem of the following kind is considered: Givenn elementsx 1, ...,x n . Any pair of these elements is provided with a number of resistance:r(x i ,x j )=r(x j ,x i )=r ij . The elements have to be assigned toq classesK 1, ...,K q , so that the total resistance
is minimized. A method is presented to determine an optimal solution. The method is based on notions and theorems developed in connection with colour-problems of graphs.
