Summary
In a single-unit system failure is discovered only by inspections. The inspection intervals are realizations of independent identically distributed random variables. Upon detection of failure a replacement takes place. It is assumed that inspections and repairs are of zero duration.
For this inspection model the following operating characteristics are considered:
-
1.
The probability that a failure is discovered at then-th inspection and the asymptotic behavior forn→∞.
-
2.
The expected total costs arising from inspection, replacement and undetected failure in then-th inspection interval.
