Quantitative indicators for federal government research and technology policy

Abstract

Five years ago theBMFT implemented a strategy to improve the knowledge of the output aspect of the GermanR&D system. The inherent objective is to help establish science policy research as an academic discipline and scientometrics as one of its methodologies. First results and possible future trends are discussed with respect to the use of scientometrics for policy making.
