ABOUT THE AUTHOR Carol B. MacKnight is an instructional technologist at the University of Massachusetts. Previously, she served for 13 years as Director of Instructional Technology at the university, during which time she designed and developed over 45 lessons, courses, and utility programs for delivery over networks and on stand-alone computers. She has published in the area of interface design, product evaluation, managing technology resources, critical thinking and collaboration on the Web. Dr. MacKnight’s professional interests include learning theory, inquiry-based learning environments, and distributed collaborative inquiry.
