Abstract
The development of systems according to the principles of Integrated Service Engineering (ISE) encompasses advanced multimedia services and usage scenarios, services management and configuration, platforms supporting service provision and management operation, and broadband network infrastructures. Important developments have been accomplished, concentrated on a specific aspect, in various RACE projects and demonstrated in appropriate established field trials. The main objective of the DRAGON project is to demonstrate the practical application of Service Management within the framework of the Open Services Architecture (OSA). The project is following an integrated service engineering approach. based on the concepts of OSA System, embracing multimedia service components being available to the project, a platform responsible for the interoperation of these components in a distributed environment, and wide-area ATM communication services representing the IBC network infrastructure provided to the potential users of the multimedia services. This paper is aiming to describe the service engineering approach followed in DRAGON, that can be generalized for the development of open systems for service deployment and provisioning over various infrastructures.
