Abstract
We are currently developing a software platform for distributed virtual reality. This platform enables many participants to join a virtual world. In our approach an object (or “entity”) of a virtual environment is represented by a process. All processes are distributed over a heterogeneous network of computers. Our research focuses on the analysis of communication protocols and the use of object-oriented programming techniques. This has lead to a performant extendible system based on generic hardware.
