Abstract
In this paper we show how an existing problem solver for configuration by resource balancing can be enhanced by cases to become an interactive system for specifying, configuring, and extending complex systems like telecooperation systems. Thereby the integration of case-based reasoning and resource-oriented configuration bases on the observation that both are instances of a more general method. To put this idea into action we are following a pragmatic approach, first supporting manual case retrieval and reuse and then gradually enriching it by automatic methods. Special consideration is given to the reuse of cases. To reuse cases in a new problem context we need adaptation. Adaptation is done by providing cases as a warehouse for our routine design solver. Therefore we do not need special adaptation knowledge, can exploit cases of different quality and size, and can interleave the reuse of multiple cases.
