1.1 Proof of Proposition 3.1

I use this representation only to obtain an upper bound \({\bar{J}}\) by minimizing the indirect utility in the artificial market for a set of modifiers. Notice that any feasible specification of the modifiers leads to an upper bound. If there were integrability issues with a particular specification of the modifiers, it is always possible to truncate this specification (at a high and thus numerically irrelevant level) without compromising the fact that the resulting value is still an upper bound.
1.2 Corollary 3.1: Solving for F with time-dependent modifiers

In this part of the appendix, I summarize a classical verification result. More details can be found in Fleming and Soner (2006), among others.
Since I apply ideas from weak duality theory, I will verify the previous calculations for tractable analytical markets only. Notice that by disregarding artificial markets that are not analytical tractable I might only increase the welfare loss, which formally means that I increase the duality gap. Whether this is numerically significant or not, can be checked by using the upper bound. It turns out that the losses are still small (see Sect. 4.3).
