Abstract
A safe collaboration and coexistence of humans and robots builds upon strict safety standards. Designing such robots requires a detailed analysis of the robot, the tool, the workpiece and the robot program with respect to robot safety. In addition, it is compulsory to validate the safety compliance through representative biofidel measurements. This process analyses potential collisions of the robot and a human through exemplary crash-tests with dedicated measurement devices. This paper presents an in-depth analysis of this process and its underlying methodologies. It further provides valuable insights into the pitfalls of collaborative applications as well as indicating possible solution corridors for the design of safe collaborative robot systems.
