Abstract.

This special issue reports the findings of a specialist workshop held in the summer of 2000, in Ann Arbor, Michigan. This introduction provides background information on HSRH imagery, briefly describes the major ways in which remote sensing data have been used previously for exposure assessment, presents the salient findings of the workshop, and places the papers resulting from the workshop within the context of these findings. It concludes with a description of a ground-truthed, HSRH data set that was used by several of the researchers to evaluate and compare their methods.
