Abstract
Ambient Assisted Living (AAL) has been introduced as a term describing ICT-technology supported conduct of life. The term Technology Augmented Health (TAH) is here introduced as a descriptive term of technology supported care and self-care, within the AAL-paradigm. The start of a needs-analysis is presented for the future maturation of TAH by “infusing medicine into technology”, contrasting to the technology push that is the usual dissemination methods for ICT-based care systems in- and out-side care institutions. The term Technology Augmented Health (TAH) is introduced. TAH is incorporating the “citizen as co-producer” in health and in care related activities by augmenting the context and societal cross-sectional knowledge-share between the citizen(s) and the professionals, e.g. concerning health, in healthcare, environmental, food, and welfare functions. In an extended time-frame TAH should provide the citizen with knowledge and response ability in relation to exogenous (e.g. lifestyle, food, environment, family and work conditions) and endogenous (e.g. disease, physiology, genetics) factors of life. This will require a fusion of several separate science disciplines and cross-fertilization between Patient Medicine (PCM) and AAL.
