Reconfigurable Intelligent Surfaces Using Non Orthogonal Multiple Access and Solar Energy Harvesting

Abstract

This article studies the throughput of non orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) using reconfigurable intelligent surfaces (RIS) when the source harvests power from the sun using a photovoltaic system. The harvested energy from the sun is made continuously. The harvested energy during \(\alpha T\) seconds is employed to broadcast data to NOMA users over \((1-\alpha )T\) seconds where \(0<\alpha <1\) and T is frame duration. The value of \(\alpha \) is wisely chosen to maximize the throughput.
