Abstract
A novel polarization insensitive, UWB, band stop FSS is discussed with a monopole antenna for gain enhancement application. A compact and simple monopole antenna (16 mm × 28 mm × 1.6 mm dimension) with Wi-Fi /WLAN (4.95–5.35 GHz) notch is designed with loaded CSRR on the radiator. The |S11| of the planar monopole antenna is 3.55 to 10.4 GHz when the FSS loaded on the antenna gain of 10.78 dB. The presented FSS unit cell size is compact and only 0.08 λ × 0.08 λ and covers the UWB achieved on FR-4 substrate. The compact FSS structure is stable for TE/TM polarization at a different angle and provides a high gain and stable radiation pattern. The experimental result shows that a high antenna can be achieved simply and efficiently by placing the FSS layer at an optimized distance below the antenna. The FSS is loaded on a compact monopole antenna to increase and control the gain up to 6 dB.
