Visual communication in swarms of intelligent robot agents

Abstract

The behavior of a swarm of intelligent robot agents is investigated using the example of football. A new mathematics is developed for spatial relationships which represent the dynamics of the system. These structures can be used for tactical and strategic planning. Agents can perceive and recognize the mathematical structures. An individual agent can signal to other agents by its relative position in these dynamic structures. Agents can communicate using these dynamic structural signals. In particular, agents may deliberately move in ways which signal their desire to self-organize with other agents to achieve, particular structural outcomes and goals.
