Abstract.
This paper analyzes reliable IP-based transport services within the context of mobile computing. Focus is on the Internet protocol TCP, which provides a reliable transport service. The problems of TCP for wireless and mobile communication are outlined especially considering TCP's congestion control. Approaches to overcome these problems can be subdivided into four categories including indirect transport protocols, which are discussed in more detail throughout this paper. Special focus is on migration support in the context of indirect transport protocols. The migration support designed within the framework OMIT is outlined and evaluated.
