Summary

Mobile TV does not only represent the convergence of broadcast and mobile networks, it also constitutes a new category of multimedia services. This article discusses application scenarios and technical options for realizing interactive Mobile TV as they have been investigated by the AMUSE 2.0 research project. The first part of this article provides an overview of relevant Mobile TV technologies and standards. The second part introduces the research project, focusing on the design and development of an open-source DVB-H/UMTS test platform. This experimental service platform features the integration of broadcast Mobile TV with new web technologies and browser components for Smartphones.
