Abstract
PM synchronous motors, which are an integral part of an aggregate in the form of built-in motors, are increasingly used in high-speed drive systems. Due to the high operating speed, the interdisciplinary development of the aggregate usually leads to 2‑pole short motors. Particularly for these 2‑pole PM synchronous motors, winding systems are needed that lead to a stator that is as compact as possible. In addition, good fundamental field utilization and an acceptable harmonic field behavior to limit the rotor eddy current losses are expected. Distributed tooth coil windings represent a new approach, which is described in detail. In the simplest case, the distributed tooth coil winding consists of simple double tooth coils. By using a turbo compressor as an example, three PM synchronous motors with different winding systems are designed and manufactured as sample motors for experimental testing. The test confirms the simulation results, and it can be shown that distributed tooth coil windings can be used meaningfully in high-speed PM synchronous motors as only low rotor eddy current losses occur.
