Thomas Bock was born in Freiburg, Germany, in 1957. He completed his M.Sc. under Fulbright scholarship from Illinois Institute of Technology, in 1982. He pursued civil engineering and architectural studies from the University of Stuttgart, Germany, in 1983. From 1984 to1989, he was with the University of Tokyo, after which he was appointed as Associate Professor for automation in construction management in the Civil Engineering Faculty at the University Karlsruhe, Germany. Since November 1997, he is the Chair (Full) Professor for building realization and informatics in the Architecture Faculty at TU Muenchen, Munich. He is the President of the National Association of Modular/Manufactured Building Producers and of the International Association for Automation and Robotics in Construction. He is the Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences in St. Petersburg and the Belorussian Academy of Computer Science.

He has authored about 250 articles in German, English, Japanese, French, and Russian languages. He is a Member of seven editorial boards of international journals and is the Editor of his own scientific publication started in 1997.
