Abstract

In a long term evolution (LTE) system, channel state information can be acquired at the transmitter (Tx) from three feedback parameters: the rank indicator (RI), precoding matrix indicator, and channel quality indicator. These parameters can facilitate the dynamic adjustment of signals at the Tx, thereby enhancing its transmission performance. In this paper, we propose a RI determination method for LTE system; the method is based on the eigen-value ratio test for a multiple-input multiple-output channel matrix. It has almost the same selection ability as that of the exhaustive full search method and offers the advantage of lower computational complexity compared with that of methods reported in the literature.
