Abstract
In order to answer the question posed in the title of this paper, we must take a wide perspective and explore the goal societies have for maintaining educational systems, how curriculum contributes to the attainment of these goals, how mathematics in the curriculum contributes to effectiveness in attaining these goals and finally some of the ways in which appropriately crafted technology can help to make mathematics a more effective part of the curriculum.
