Abstract

A radio architecture of Wide-band Wireless Local Area Networks (WWLAN) based on a multi-sector coverage scheme is investigated. The impact of that scheme on WWLAN benefit and cost functions is analyzed using proper modeling of the coverage-related system parameters. The design guidelines that can be obtained from the proposed approach are described, pointing out how the modeling can be exploited from both the analytical and the synthetic points of view. The degree of coverage splitting is adopted as a key-design parameter and its impact on WWLAN performance is analyzed in various coverage architectures. Results are reported for a 60 GHz WWLAN.
