Abstract

The paper proposes a design approach of handover procedures for mobile cellular systems. Performance charts, where the parameters of interest in the handover procedure design are linked to system requirements, are utilized to describe and apply the proposed design methodology. The design moves from a flexible system description. The paper describes the design technique together with the underlying system model. Design examples are provided and the design effectiveness is validated through an overall system simulator.

The design approach is particularly advantageous as it joins flexibility to low complexity and satisfactory design accuracy. The results that have been achieved in the validation campaign confirm the effectiveness and usefulness of the approach.
