Abstract

Research activities at the Communications Research Laboratory (CRL), IAI,Japan, into new-generation mobile communications are described. Theseactivities are categorized into three areas: (1) cellular transmission in themicrowave frequency region, (2) street-cell and hotspot transmission in themillimeter-wave frequency region, and (3) software defined radio (SDR) basedmobile terminals. Prototypes have been developed and field-tested in eacharea. The prototypes and the field trial results are described, and aperspective on new-generation mobile communications is presented.
