Abstract
In recent years, the digital transformation of mechanical engineering organizations has gained growing attention. The widespread development and use of digital technologies provide companies with new opportunities to improve their internal processes. However, due to the lack of a holistic digital transformation approach, digitalization projects are often initiated and implemented independently by individual departments. Therefore, neither can efforts be coordinated holistically, nor can cross-process effects be sufficiently considered. Especially the customer-oriented consideration of the end-to-end process chain offers unused potential to digitally transform organizations. Although academic literature describes several process models for evaluating and prioritizing IT projects, these process models reach their limitations in practice, especially concerning the evaluation and prioritization of projects along the end-to-end process chain. Thus, this paper presents a novel approach that enables organizations to evaluate and prioritize digitalization projects along their end-to-end process chain. The developed process model was validated and verified in close cooperation with a mechanical engineering organization, the TRUMPF GmbH + Co. KG.
