We present an empirical study evaluating the impact of mediating interruptions on the quality of user experience in a mobile application that acts as a personal trainer. The mediation strategy is based on a taxonomy-based interruption framework, which uses Bayesian belief networks to represent the context of use. The subjective data analyses suggest that by increasing the relevance of the information content, and by selecting the most opportune moments for presenting progress reports, the mobile application could lessen the disruptive effects of interruptions, and promote their motivational impact on user's behavior.
