The authors are studying ways to create a function similar to human consciousness based on biologically inspired ideas and using an engineering approach. The authors have arrived at the idea that, “the consistency of cognition and behavior is the origin of human consciousness.” Their belief is derived from studying findings in various fields of research including information science, brain science, philosophy, and psychology. Based on their idea, the authors have developed the recurrent neural network module named Module of Nerves for Advanced Dynamics, or MoNAD, which is very capable of explaining the phenomena of human consciousness. Using this module, the authors further developed a system to consciously expect upcoming events.
