Abstract
Research into Natural Language Understanding systems for computers has concentrated on implementing particular grammars and grammatical models of the language concerned. This paper presents a rationale for research into Natural Language Understanding systems based on Neurological and Psychological principles.Important features of the approach are that it seeks to place the onus of Learning the language on the computer, and that it seeks to make use of the vast wealth of relevant Psychollngulstic and Neurollnguistic theory.

The restriction language for computer grammars of natural language
Over the past few years, a number of systems for the computer analysis of natural language sentences have been based on augmented context-free grammars: a context-free grammar which defines a set of parse trees for a sentence, plus a group of ...
Semiautomatic Acquisition of Semantic Structures for Understanding Domain-Specific Natural Language Queries
This paper describes a methodology for semiautomatic grammar induction from unannotated corpora of information-seeking queries in a restricted domain. The grammar contains both semantic and syntactic structures, which are conducive to (spoken) natural ...
Language-based environment for natural language parsing
EACL '85: Proceedings of the second conference on European chapter of the Association for Computational LinguisticsThis paper introduces a special programming environment for the definition of grammars and for the implementation of corresponding parsers. In natural language processing systems it is advantageous to have linguistic knowledge and processing mechanisms ...
