ABSTRACT
We shall deliver a two-part paper this afternoon concerning a Data Systems Intern Program in the National Security Agency of the U. S. Department of Defense. Before we begin our discussion of the program, I should like to give you some background. Although there is comparatively little that we can say about the National Security Agency, we are at liberty to inform you that NSA is responsible for the security of U. S. communications. To ensure the greatest degree of security for U. S. communications, NSA uses specially-designed computers and high-speed data processing equipment to produce and to test the U. S. Government's cryptographic systems. As NSA, therefore, the computer is an important tool and the agency needs its share of competent professionals in the field.
