An approach to improve predictability in communication services in distributed real-time embedded systems

Published: 26 September 2007 Publication History

Abstract

The development of Distributed Real-Time Embedded Systems requires solutions able to address constraints imposed on design, such as low energy consumption, reduced area, and timing requirements, also keeping a flexible and reusable approach to cope with the growing complexity of these systems. This paper shows how the RTSJ event service can improve a multiprocessor communication service, opening room for time and energy optimization. Furthermore, the unpredictability inherent to communication is reduced, improving real-time properties. An illustrative example of message passing is used to demonstrate the concept.
