ABSTRACT
The 70's are expected to become the beginning of the era of intellectual maturity of the information processing systems. Until now the main challenge was the adaptation of problems to the computers. The new challenge is the adaptation of computers to the problems.

Hardware/software trade-offs: reasons and directions
AFIPS '72 (Fall, part I): Proceedings of the December 5-7, 1972, fall joint computer conference, part IA hardware/software trade-off is the establishment of the division of responsibility for performing system functions between the software, firmware and hardware. This is part and parcel of the fundamental process of defining computer architecture. It ...
Recent results in mathematical modeling and performance evaluation of disks and disk array
In the seventies and eighties extensive work on mathematical modeling and performance evaluation of disks and disk arrays was carried out. The main tools were stochastic and combinatorial analysis. For the combinatorial approach led by C. K. Wong and ...
Hardware/software co-design then and now
Special issue: Contribution to computing scienceHardware/software co-design recently became a field of research and a method of development both important and fashionable. We show that it is a technique already used some decades ago, and discuss its various aspects, forms and benefits. At the same ...
