ABSTRACT
This paper describes a component of the Virtual Training Studio called the Virtual Mentor, which is responsible for interacting with the trainees in the virtual environment and proactively monitoring their progress. The Virtual Mentor is a component that is embedded in the Virtual Workspace. Some of the tasks it performs are driving the interactive simulation code generated by the Virtual Author, executing user testing, logging user actions in the virtual environment, detecting errors and providing detailed messages and hints, and assisting the instructor in tailoring the generated training material to increase training effectiveness. This paper presents some of the technical challenges and solutions as well as the rationale behind the Virtual Mentor design.

Development of a Twitter graduate school virtual mentor for HBCU computer science students
ACMSE '18: Proceedings of the ACMSE 2018 ConferenceThe problem being addressed in the study is the underrepresentation of African American tenured and tenure-track faculty in the STEM professoriate despite HBCUs producing the most STEM doctoral graduates. This study uses virtual mentoring as a tool to ...
A virtual reality keyboard with realistic haptic feedback in a fully immersive virtual environment
This study presents a 3D virtual reality (VR) keyboard system with realistic haptic feedback. The system uses two five-fingered data gloves to track finger positions and postures, uses micro-speakers to create simulated vibrations, and uses a head-...
Thinning trainer based on forest-growth model, virtual reality and computer-aided virtual environment
Immersive virtual reality is applied in many human activities. This virtual reality can be used as a training tool for thinning operations in forests. The aim of this study is to describe the complex solution of Thinning Trainer, that we developed. This ...
